SS-31, also known as Elamipretide, is a synthetic tetrapeptide that has gained significant attention in medical research for its unique ability to target and repair mitochondria, the “powerhouses” of the cell. Primary Mechanism: Protecting Cardiolipin
The core benefit of SS-31 stems from its interaction with cardiolipin, a specialized lipid essential for maintaining the structure of mitochondrial “cristae” (the inner folds). By binding to cardiolipin, SS-31:
